Strategic Design & The Future of Design
THE OVERARCHING THEME FOR DMI’S 2024 PROGRAMS is “Design & Innovation at a Crossroad.” Without any prompting to our authors, the focus of most of the articles in this issue indicates that Design is truly at a crossroad. This is reflected from authors Woo and Nam who suggest that designers may want to take a new approach when it comes to social innovation by making citizen stakeholders the experts; to Felde on technology and how another seismic wave of change looms; to Schiavo and Magalhães on how strategic design can be employed to develop cities of the future.
And I’m sure that most design leaders would support this statement by Pinheiro and Franqueria that “the role of design within corporate environments has become increasingly critical in driving innovation, shaping organizational culture, and fostering competitive advantage.”
