Raymond Turner

Raymond Turner Associates

Raymond is one of those designers who has never been afraid to tackle BEHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Design Goals) and succeed!

Long-time DMI Member, dmi:Review magazine contributor, and conference speaker, Raymond Turner has retired from his commercial practice. An early thinker and author on design leadership vs design management, Raymond has been a leader in the changing role of design in business, culture, and society.

For over 40 years he has helped companies secure strategic value from their design investment. Spending his career making design work, he is one of the few design professionals who has held senior posts on both sides of the client-designer divide, being Deign Director of two public and private companies and Managing Director of two international multidisciplinary design consultancies. For the last 15 years he has run his own consulting business specializing in design management and leadership with particular emphasis on maximizing value from design investments, delivering enhanced customer experience and developing design awareness in business leaders and managers.

He has led the design teams of major infrastructure projects like Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport and the high-speed rail link between Heathrow and London; a business transformational program based on design leadership for Roca, the international ceramic company and steered the development of a new masterplan for central London with the focus on giving back the streets to pedestrians. He has been advisor to many large and small companies including the Bank of England and IBM UK.

While he has ended his commercial practice Raymond Turner Associates, he will continue serving as a non-executive director, mentor and strategic design advisor. For Raymond Turner Design Leadership is a commercial and social imperative and integral to what makes business successful, government effective, and society safer and more enjoyable to everyone.
