Design Museum
224-238 Kensington High St
Kensington, London W8 6AG, UK

WEDNESDAY, 3 APRIL - 5:00 – 7:45 (Attendees Will Leave CSM at 4:00 PM - Travel Time 30 Minutes)

DMI Badge required for entry to Museum

Mid-afternoon we'll leave Central St. Martins to experience design in the city, traveling to the Design Museum to view the work of celebrated British-Ghanaian architect, Sir David Adjaye OBE, whose landmark structures have become modern monuments. We'll view the exhibit "David Adjaye: Making Memory" and hear how Adjaye uses architecture and form to reflect on history, memory and record human lives. A drinks and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow in the atrium of the building– a stunning example of original architecture and adaptive reuse.

The Design Museum in West London is characterized by an incredible level of detail. The building is an important example of British post-war modernism, designed by Sir Robert Matthew, completed in 1962. Revitalization of the existing building was done by the architectural firms OMA, and Allies and Morrison, with Arup engineers. They restored the shell building– including its distinctive copper-covered, hyperbolic paraboloid roof. Architectural designer John Pawson was responsible for the building's newly reconfigured interiors.

Attendees will be responsible for travel to the Design Museum (Take train at stop close to CSM, approx 30 minutes travel, or longer by car - check back here later for more details)
