Hackathon #DLC16

September 26, 2016
Boston, MA

Hackathon, jam, mindstorm - whatever you call it, DMI and Oracle are bringing together designers from every discipline in a day-long session on Monday only– to address a challenge.

We've been inspired by the use of hackathons for everything from stretching the limits of new technologies to "gov jams" that use the power of collective human-centered design intelligence to solve real issues. Many businesses are now using hackathons as a way to engage all stakeholders– in and outside of the organization.

At this day-long event on September 26th sponsored by Oracle, attendees will work in teams to understand the issue, identify stakeholders, reframe thinking, brainstorm concepts, and create solution prototypes (no coding is required). In the end, winning ideas will be declared, and then shared on the second day of the dmi:Design Leadership Conference and in the dmi:Review.

Best of all, you'll learn to develop real solutions with people you've just met. And along the way, you'll learn to help accelerate innovation in your own enterprise.

We'll be tackling the wicked problem of Urban Revitalization with the Hackathon #DLC16 challenge question:

What Physical and Virtual Artifacts Can We Create That Support Bringing Distressed Urban Communities Back to Life?

If you have driven through cities still recovering from the recession you have seen the vast stretches of empty lots interspersed between surviving houses and businesses. Private/Public partnerships are being created to breathe new life into these underutilized urban spaces. But these are not merely "urban spaces" requiring "revitalization". These were the stages on which people's lives played out. A community is really an extension of your home. To bring these communities back to life we have to engage the community in an active way that inspires them and makes them believe in the change. What physical and virtual artifacts can we create that support bringing a distressed urban community back to life?

Registration for the Hackathon #DLC16 is a separate event from the conference sessions on Monday. Hit the "Register Here" button above for more information.
