In an era where technologies of presence and connection are increasingly sublimating into the very architecture around us, it’s incumbent on designers and planners to think big about the massive interdependencies these systems create – and the impact of a data-centric world view on human intuition and interaction.

From urban planning to the future of work in the Enterprise, we need to reimagine both the scale and temporality of place and the embodiment of an emerging Big Design: engagement models for the designed world that not only measure progress in decades but also beholden to the effervescing whim of myriad data types. Indeed, many systems being created now won’t express their full data potential for years to come.

How we think about the future of design teaming and skills is certainly part of the approach but the core challenge would seem to be around how our species thinks about the future at large. "We shape our tools and then our tools shape us” as the saying goes; what are the ways in which we should anticipate our “designed” evolution in this regard?

Scott leads (UX) design teams, focuses (and unfocuses) minds, and foments discussion and ideas around mainly two principles:

“Culture is product.”
“If they can, they will.”

Scott is an interaction and media designer with a deep and abiding interest in science fiction and its influence over popular expectations of the technologies surrounding human computer interaction. Subsequently, the deterministic aspects of both cultural perception as well as the technical and infrastructural innovations that ground technology’s path to market occupy his thinking.

Most recently to joining the frog team in mid-2007, Scott was a Principal UX Researcher at the Sun Labs in Menlo Park and received an MFA (Media Design) from the Art Center College of Design.
