Session Description:

Organizations of larger size and complexity recognize the role of creativity and design as an opportunity to become more relevant, build audience engagement and drive transformation into the future. For both community and business enterprises alike, overlapping interests stimulate similar opportunities and challenges for creative leadership and design thinking. Eric Quint, Chief Design Officer of 3M Company, resides in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, and is at the helm of driving creativity and design in a business enterprise. He will share his experiences, challenges and influence as a design leader translating vision into action. Eric will show how the relational impact of community and business enterprises can spark a culture of creativity and design.

This key note speech is delivered before during the DMI conference in Amsterdam, May 24th 2016, in a co-presentation with Gülgün Kayim, Director of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy for the city of Minneapolis.





Eric Quint joined 3M in 2013 as Chief Design Officer to lead the design function as a vital competitive platform for the company. With more than 25 years of global design experience that includes a distinguished career at Royal Philips Electronics, Eric brings extensive design leadership in building and managing multi-disciplinary creative teams to drive brand and innovation forward. As a recognized design industry leader, he has guided award-winning global teams across both BtoB and consumer industries to drive strategic partnerships, alliances and brand licensing activities.

Passionate about design thinking and the opportunity to make positive impact on the future of 3M, its business partners and customers, Eric’s focus is on bringing design to the heart of the company. He continues to drive transformation at multiple levels to make this happen.

Eric studied industrial design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands and holds a degree in mechanical/industrial engineering. He is on the Advisory Board of the Design Management Institute, is a member and ambassador of the Industrial Designers Society of America and a member of the World 50 Innovators. The last three years Eric was the Chair of the Creative City Challenge in Minneapolis, a municipal program that drives application of design thinking to enrich society. Eric can often be found speaking and lecturing at international events for design, business and academia on a variety of topics related to design thinking, innovation, branding and design management.
