Close to one-third of the U.S. economy flows through Intuit’s payroll, invoicing and tax software. What drove such a dominant software company to reinvent itself into a Design Driven Company as declared by its CEO, Brad Smith, one of the most respected CEO’s in Silicon Valley? This story begins in 2006, Intuit found itself in a terrible position — flattening growth, sinking net promoter scores, and a less than desirable innovation pipeline. This talk will tell the story of Intuit’s rebirth in leveraging Design at all levels of company creating a culture based upon design thinking, experimentation and risk taking.  





Joseph O’Sullivan is, a Design Director in Silicon Valley at Intuit, a leader in financial management solutions for consumers and small businesses. Joseph originally joined Intuit to take on the rare and dangerous task of turning a corporation into a Design Thinking powerhouse of Innovation — since then Intuit has been recognized for its about face culture change by Harvard Business Review and Fast Company. Joseph leads Design Strategy, tackling problems typically thought of as unsolvable or at best career ending.

Prior to Intuit, Joseph was a Design Director at Yahoo! leading the global practice of prototyping, design methods, advertising user and mobile discovery.

As the Vice President of Use Experience at Wells Fargo Bank, Joseph and his team did battle in the early days of the Internet and in the end triumphed with millions of delighted customers and multiple awards for superior user experience.

Joseph is a named innovator in over 20 patents covering the intersection of social, mobile, and monetization.
