Dell EMC PowerStore

Dell Technologies - Industrial Design, Software Design, Technology, Engineering, Strategists, Marketing

PowerStore is the result of a global development team that came to fruition when Dell and EMC merged into a single global corporation in 2016. The solution is the first of its kind and is a proof that the businesses could prioritize the design tenets, core features, functionality, and user experience that exemplify the excellence of the combined Dell Technologies brand.

Multiple product teams spread across various countries came together to create PowerStore. The challenges that were overcome included what any multi-location global company would undertake under normal circumstances but were compounded by the merging of the corporations while the hardware and software were already in flight. The ability for all teams to focus on best practices, a unified design language, and simplified user experience, based on an agile development model, was demonstrated by the release of this solution.

The Experience Innovation Group (EIG)—which consists of designers, strategists and technologists—works in collaboration with advanced engineering, planning, marketing and other key stakeholders across Dell Technologies. Key activities and milestones are executed and reviewed, from early concept work, throughout design and user testing, to ensure delivery of a consistent, best-in-class enterprise experience.

The complexity of integrating two distinctly different design processes and languages into a single direction, through a unified leadership was navigated across a multi-year development cycle and required the storage organization to successfully develop all elements of the solution across multiple global design centers. Engineering planning, including the user experience (UX) team, was an integral part of this development process.

PowerStore strengthens the Dell Technologies portfolio and brings value to its customers. Midrange storage is the largest and fastest growing segment of the storage industry. With PowerStore, the team created an industry-leading architecture that will help Dell gain market share while reducing complexity in its overall storage portfolio.

PowerStore brings storage into the modern data era with an adaptable architecture that enables speed and application mobility. Customers have the flexibility to choose many deployment options while maintaining consistent operations.

Supported by Dell’s Future-Proof program, customers can deploy PowerStore and transform the solution at their own pace with new Anytime Upgrades. The Anytime Upgrade program enables customers to invest in PowerStore—confident in the knowledge they have a path to seamlessly move to the next-gen platform or higher models as and when needed.

PowerStore enables customers to do more than they ever imagined with their data, to fuel progress and innovation. The product delivers performance, storage efficiency, and scalability to support traditional and modern workloads without compromise. It uses intelligent automation and simplified management to drive efficiency and lower operating costs.

Built-in artificial intelligence and machine learning analyze and evaluate resource levels, application demands, and storage use to maintain system balance and improve performance. PowerStore is highly programmable. This allows IT to streamline application development and automate storage workflows by integrating with VMware and popular DevOps management frameworks like Kubernetes and Ansible. IT administrators can also use CloudIQ predictive analytics to proactively monitor storage use, performance, and health.
