Kaiser Permanente

Healthcare is moving outside the hospital and doctor’s office and into the community, home, and virtual settings.

In 2016 Kaiser Permanente (KP), a health care provider serving nearly 12 million members in 9 states saw 59 million customers connecting via online portals, virtual visits, or the health system’s apps. “Virtual visits” accounted for over half (52%) of total visits that year.

To create understanding and innovation around how current and future technologies transform care, KP developed “Imagining Care Anywhere (ICA)” to imagine a care scenario served entirely outside of traditional medical facilities.

They engaged Continuum, the design and innovation firm, to make ICA more tangible to employees, providers, and patients alike. Continuum developed a series of interactive experiences featuring persona stories, videos, and sets that have impacted aspects of the entire Kaiser system.

For visitors to KP’s Garfield Innovation Center the overall perception of KP’s as an “innovative organization” has increased around 40%.

ICA has helped advance a range of KP’s investments in telemedicine.

And Kaiser has used Imagine Care Anywhere with their HR workforce planning teams to understand how future roles will be influenced by new models of care.
