Driving the Value of Design in Korea & Internationally

KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology)

KAIST is a public research-oriented science and engineering institution established by the Korean government in 1971. Their department of Industrial Design was listed in the top 30 Design Schools by Business Week.

The Institute focuses in three areas: graduate design management education, research in the private and public sectors, and providing consulting services that advance the value of design and design management.

KAIST, led by Dr. Kyung-won Chung has contributed to integrating design thinking and culture into the leading Korean companies as well as Korean government: Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. Dr. Chung has served as the design advisor and/or the outside executive director of top Korean companies such as LG, Samsung Electronics, and Hyundai Motor.

As the 9th president and CEO of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, he established a vision of "World Design Leader" and three strategies (e-Design Excellence, Global Networking, and Design for You) and revamped national design promotion systems.

We recognize KAIST as an elite Industrial Design Management education institution, and Dr. Chung as an influential international advocate for the value of design.
