Membership Levels

DMI offers simple membership tiers tailored to every user:

Individual Membership | 1 member:

Whether a sole proprietor, or an individual within an organization, Individual membership allows access to member benefits for a single user. Academic Individual memberships are offered to full-time faculty or staff of accredited educational institutions or individuals working in the public sector. Student individual memberships are for full-time students, or students enrolled in a formal graduate design management degree program.

Professional: $400

Academic & Public Sector: $300

Student: $200



Group Membership | 8 members:

The Group tier works for smaller organizations with leadership that benefits from connecting to business leaders and peers, and a team that succeeds with discounted access to education, training, and the dmi:Knowledge. The Group Membership level includes eight individual memberships from the same institution, at one or more locations. Academic Group memberships are also available to accredited educational institutions and organizations in the public sector.

Professional: $1600

Academic | Public Sector: $800

Groups may add up to 15 people with a $400 yearly fee.


Forum Membership | 16 or more members:

This level recognizes organizations that are key supporters of the initiatives of The Design Management Institute. Benefits are available to every member of the institution, at one or more locations. Leaders are able to develop their organization with access to the DMI knowledge base, publishing opportunities, and a broad selection of discounted educational training custom designed for their teams. Academic Forum memberships are extended to accredited educational institutions working at the highest level of thought leadership in design, design management and innovation education.

I’m not a designer. Can I still be a member?

Yes, DMI membership is open to everyone. We connect business innovators, public sector leaders, educators, researchers, and members from every design discipline. If you’re interested in using design management and design thinking for business success and social impact become a member

I receive your emails and mailings. Am I a member?

Not necessarily. If you clicked "subscribe to dmi: Dialog" you will get our email newsletter, as well as email notices of upcoming educational programs and events. You are a subscriber, but It does not mean you are a member.

How do I join?

Click "Join Us" from any page on the website to begin your membership registration.

When does my membership start?

DMI membership starts as soon as your membership is processed, and runs from the end of the month in which you join, for a period of one year.

How do I renew?

You will receive an email before your expiration date, then simply renew online.

How can I find information/status about my membership?

Click Login and go to your Member Profile where you will find all your membership information.

A Group/Forum member resigned. Can I transfer the membership to another colleague?

Yes. Please contact DMI, and we’ll change the membership.

I’m in the Public Sector, should I join as a Professional or Academic member?

Individuals working in the public sector are eligible for DMI Academic Membership rates. This includes government agencies, country design councils, and nonprofit organizations.
