Leadership for New and Emerging Design Managers is ONLY for new managers and those with less than 5 years experience.
Carole is a long-time member of the Design Management Institute and has served on both the Advisory Council and the current Board of Directors. She has contributed to the quarterly Design Management publication DMI: Review, and her active participation in both FuturED and the Design Value initiatives have helped to shape their direction. She brings two decades of experience in corporate design and non-profit leadership to her role as President of DMI.
Most recently Carole was the President of Strategic Change & Innovation, providing organizations with a roadmap to build innovation capacity, achieve operational excellence, and increase value. She brings a unique skill-set to challenges, combining her expertise in experience design and design thinking with extensive skills in organizational design and development, and change management. Prior to SCI, Carole was Vice President, Global Design & Usability & Technology Support Operations at Pitney Bowes overseeing a team of visual and industrial designers, engineers, information architects/ Human Factors engineers and front-end software developers that received 12 international Design Awards and 49 patents.
Carole has also worked extensively in the non-profit sector, founding, leading and actively participating in organizations focused on design leadership, women and workforce, and K-12 education that include The User Experience Design Consortium, World Design Foundation, ITSMF IT Senior Management Forum, Rochester Women's Network, The Greater Fairfield County Foundation, and Network North Star and the Links.
She holds a BFA in Industrial Design & Graphic/Visual Design from the University of Michigan and program certifications from Tuck School of Business; Dartmouth, and the University of California; Berkeley. She is a member of IDSA, holds two patents, and is a frequent speaker at conferences and symposia worldwide.
Brian is an independent design management consultant and a former Principal in the Service Design team at Continuum Boston where he shared the responsibility for growing the digital practice and leveraging the broad skillset at Continuum to bridge the analog and digital divide and create integrated, multi-platform, multi-touchpoint customer experiences. Prior to joining Continuum, Brian spent a year in Amsterdam with boutique digital shop, MediaCatalyst, and prior to that at interactive agency Molecular/Isobar in Boston as Director of Strategic Design. Brian has worked with a diverse range of companies large and small including American Express, Samsung, Sprint, Yamaha, Spil Games, JP Morgan Chase, Rentokil Initial, Fidelity Investments, Alico, and adidas, where he led the design of the original user experience of the miCoach personal coaching system. Brian holds an MBA, Design Management from the University of Westminster, London, and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Design Management Institute.
