Business is (sometimes) a design unfriendly environment. Why should you take the risk to use your talent?
Design is not a fad. For companies to succeed in today’s (and tomorrow’s) economy, design must be at the heart of everything those organizations do. Leaders and employees must think and act like designers. Design is more than the visual aspects of a company’s products, services, and marketing. Design thinking can and should be applied to both strategy and innovation. At its heart, design is about people. Decisions should be made not on the standard “blah blah blah” heard in meetings, but on true customer (i.e. people) insight. When design thinking is embedded in company culture, those organizations benefit from speed, knowledge sharing, engagement with customers, more revenue, and a shared language not found in any other company culture.
In the last few years we have worked with and studied hundreds of companies experiencing different journeys in strategy and innovation. We have seen differences and similarities. And, we have seen and used different tools and skills applied to various challenges and opportunities. We have seen a new (winning) mindset emerge brought about by design.
