Session Description:

Call it change, or transformation, or organizational development. Call it what you want. It is hard and fails often. Too often. Visions are forgotten, strategies don’t get implemented, processes aren’t adopted, and change initiatives don’t change much. So many well-designed plans fail to deliver. Why? The problem is change management is seen as just that. A management process. Something that is cascaded from the top-down. The approach makes victims of the people in the organization rather than engaging them as soldiers in the effort. XPLANE approaches change from a design perspective. Activating change does not follow a roadmap. It requires navigation. Only design can do that – design as methodology, and design as artifacts. This workshop starts with a short presentation, but quickly moves to a hands-on learning experience where participants will learn core tools and frameworks XPLANE uses to help Fortune 500s and global NGOs successfully design and activate change at scale.

BIOGRAPHY:
Dave has been with XPLANE since 2006 and has held the roles of director of interactive design and VP of client services. He works as a principal consultant on client programs ranging from strategic planning and process design, and from culture change to organizational transformation. Key clients include: ICANN, BP, Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), Intel, and PayPal.

Prior to XPLANE, Dave worked in San Francisco from 1995-2005, where he held leadership roles at ad agencies, consultancies, and several tech start-ups. He has led the design and development of numerous products, services, and marketing campaigns for clients including HP, Yahoo!, Microsoft, RadioShack, and Nestlé.

Dave believes strongly in a generalist’s ability for synthesis and lateral thinking so he actively works to maintain a broad range of skills and industry knowledge. He holds a BA in theater design from The Colorado College, and did MBA work at Portland State University.
