DMI International Innovation Summit: Empowered Innovation
November 30-December 2, 2005, Boston, USA
Organized by DMI and hosted by the Massachusetts College of Art

Understanding the impact that process, purpose, and context have on taking ideas from inception to realization for business and societal benefit

Featured Speaker
Dan Pink

This Summit will bring together the best and the brightest minds to create an experiential forum to examine the concept, scope, and depth of empowered innovation. The format of the summit will differ from past DMI programs in several ways. As registration for the Summit develops, web-based interaction and discussions will begin. The first two hundred people to register will receive a copy of Daniel Pink’s book, The Whole New Mind. From this group twenty-five will be invited to participate in a special pre-conference workshop on innovation leadership to prepare them for further learning as innovation consultants during the Summit. Each day of the summit will be filled with lectures, interactive sessions, and special projects. The Summit will act as a catalyst focusing on learning from each other in a very creative context. Please visit the DMI Web site in the coming weeks for more information about this exciting new conference.

Daniel Formosa reveals the sources of these problems and analyzes how, when professionals expand their understanding of design and emotion to include stress, problems are reduced at the same time that safety and reliability are enhanced.

Creating an Industry and Culture Through Branding: The Story of Burton Snowboards
By David Schriber, Burton Snowboards, and Michael Jager, Creative Director, Jager Di Paola Kemp
From the Design Management Review, Vol. 10, No. 1, Winter 1999

The market is young and irreverent. It revels in an outlaw image. In this situation, traditional branding just won’t do. Instead, David Schriber and Michael Jager helped to create a “living brand” that shapes and is shaped by the culture of snowboarding. Design is at the heart of this dynamic customer-centered strategy. The product is always being refined; there are 20 to 30 versions of the corporate mark each season. This is branding with a twist. The constant here is the world of snowboarding, which is always changing.
