September 23-26, 2007
Kingsmill Resort & Spa, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA
DMI’s 32nd International Design Management Conference will take an in-depth look at what the future may hold for design management, leadership, and strategy. With a portfolio of thought-leaders, combined with group exercises such as a unique set of “Time Machine” breakouts, we will seek solutions to the biggest opportunities and obstacles we will face for both today and tomorrow. The goal will be to help design managers become design leaders, and design leaders to become organization leaders of the future.

DMI Singapore 07 Conference
November 28-29,
2007
Grand Hyatt Singapore
Event Partner: DesignSingapore Council
DMI is proud to introduce a major new international professional conference in Asia. The DMI Singapore 07 Conference will be part of the Singapore Design Festival 2007, in conjunction with event partner, DesignSingapore Council.
Building business value through design is a business imperative. Well-managed design has the power to build brands, create innovation, enable strategy, and ensure customer satisfaction. But moving design from a project-based function to a strategic function; from OEM to ODM; from lowest-cost to sustainable design; from an expense to an asset—is difficult. We will explore the latest expert thinking and know-how. Don’t miss this inspiring conference and learning opportunity.
Registration and hotel information is now available for this exciting gathering of thought-leaders from around the world. Look for more information about the program and speakers at the DMI website and in future issues of the eBulletin.
| This new conference is part of the Singapore Design Festival 2007: Creating the Edge, held from
November 27-December 8, 2007. The Festival was established in 2005 by the DesignSingapore Council (Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts), as a biennial platform with the aim to celebrate and promote design as a driver of the new economy, and provide a gateway to Asia’s design community, and Asia to the world. For more information about the Festival, please visit www.designsingapore.org. |

A New DMI Case Study: Braun Syncro Shaver, (A) & (B)
DMI is proud to introduce an important addition to the DMI case study collection, Braun: The Syncro Shaver, (A) and (B). Written by Dr. Karen Freeze, DMI Senior Research Fellow, the two cases trace the fascinating, behind-the-scenes story of how a new top men's shaver was developed.
In the A case, Braun is hoping that the new product will reverse its declining market share in men’s shavers. Also under development is an innovative automatic cleaning device that could dramatically differentiate the new shaver. At issue is whether to adopt the risky strategy of “marrying” the two projects with the goal of creating a break-through product. In the B case, Braun needs to decide how to communicate the benefits of its revolutionary new shaving system to the market. Many believe that Braun needs to offer more than “just” a new shaver—this new product may play a critical role in the fate of the Braun brand.
Together, these two cases show what it takes to develop a successful, innovative product, and the challenges in how to communicate the essence of a product and a brand to the marketplace. Most DMI case studies are distributed worldwide by Harvard Business School Publications. For more information, please visit www.dmi.org/cases, or www.hbsp.com.
