Thomas Lockwood Appointed New DMI President

Tom Lockwood

Off to a great start in 2006, DMI is pleased to have Thomas Lockwood, PhD join DMI as the new President. Dr. Lockwood comes to DMI with over 20 years experience in design management on both the consulting side and the corporate side, most recently serving as a Brand and Design Director for Sun Microsystems. Lockwood succeeds Earl Powell, who became President Emeritus on January 1. Powell will continue part-time working on DMI projects, providing counsel to Lockwood, and pursuing his interest in woodworking.

“I am thrilled at the opportunity to support the international design management community by helping organizations worldwide better understand the effective management of design for economic growth” said Lockwood.

This year DMI will focus on further developing research, thought leadership, and member value in the area of design management. This is a very exciting time for DMI as the Institute expands internationally. Lockwood holds a PhD in Design Management from the Harrow Business School, University of Westminster, London, an MBA in Design Management, and BA in Marketing and in Visual Design.

On behalf of all of us at DMI, we wish all of you peace, joy and prosperity for 2006.
