2007
Grand Hyatt Singapore
Event Partner: DesignSingapore Council
Building business value through design is a business imperative. Well-managed design has the power to build brands, create innovation, enable strategy, and ensure customer satisfaction. But moving design from a project-based function to a strategic function; from OEM to ODM; from lowest-cost to sustainable design; from an expense to an asset—is difficult. We will explore the latest expert thinking and know-how. Don’t miss this inspiring new conference and learning opportunity!
Partial List of Presenters:
Surya Vanka, Design Integration, Microsoft
Lee Green, Vice President Global Brand, Design and Customer Experience, IBM
Jerome Kathman, President and CEO, LPK
Marc Gobé, Chairman & CEO, Desgrippes Gobé Group
(Additional speakers will be announced shortly.)
With this first Asian DMI professional conference, DMI is taking an important step in its mission to increase international programs and content. The conference is organized with the cooperation of the DesignSingapore Council as part of the Singapore Design Festival 2007: Creating the Edge. First held in 2005, the festival celebrates and promotes design as a driver of the new economy, and provides a gateway to Asia's design community, and Asia to the world.
Registration and hotel information is now available for this gathering of thought-leaders from around the world. Look for more information about the program and speakers at the DMI website and in future issues of the eBulletin.

Review Download of the Month
Integrating Design into Strategic Management Processes
By Ron Sanchez, Professor of Management, Copenhagen Business School
From the Design Management Review, Vol. 17, No. 4, Fall 2006
Analyzing the interface between design and corporate strategy, Ron Sanchez identifies the many activities and decision-making points where design expertise has value. He stresses that design managers must expand their understanding of business priorities and processes, but with that background, feels they can positively impact the strategic direction of a business unit, the synergy among business units, and the presence of a business globally.
