The 32nd DMI International Design Management Conference
Thinking Ahead: Building the Future of Design in Business
September 23-26, 2007
Kingsmill Resort & Spa, Williamsburg, Virginia, USA

KingsmillThe world of design and design in business is changing radically. How do design leaders not only cope, but embrace the exploding awareness of design for business? Is this sea change here to stay? What’s next? At the 32nd DMI International Design Management Conference, we will take a serious look at what the future may hold for design.

For the first time ever, DMI's 32nd Design Management Conference will be held outside of New England at the Kingsmill Resort & Spa, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Located on 2,900 acres along the James River near historic Colonial Williamsburg, the resort offers guest villas, the championship golf River Course, and the Spa at Kingsmill.

Registration is now open for this world-class conference that sells out every year. Watch future issues of the eBulletin for more information about the program and schedule.

Looking Back at the 11th DMI European Design Management Conference
March 14–16, 2007, Copenhagen, Denmark

Photos of the European ConferenceThis past March, 150 international design professionals convened in Copenhagen at DMI’s 11th European Design Management Conference, addressing the important topic of “Measuring Design’s Role in Business Success” from a European perspective. On Wednesday, Tom Lockwood challenged attendees to measure aspects of business success in the popular group exercises. How do you measure satisfaction? Or, process? These discussions continued at a reception and dinner held at the Danish Design Centre, and also on Thursday night at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Museum.

A full schedule on Thursday and Friday included presentations by Lavrans Løvlie, Live\Work; Pia Bech Mathiesen, Danish State Railways; Harry Rich, Design Council, and many others. Not surprisingly, these discussions led to more questions on design’s value. Some answers are addressed in a BusinessWeek.com article, Can You Measure Design’s Value?

One of the most fulfilling aspects of the DMI conferences is the opportunity for networking opportunities and interaction with their peers from around the world. Attendees left the conference with new insights on design and business. We share our photos of conference highlights at www.dmi/org/european. More updates will be posted soon, including audio, video, group findings, and a white paper report.
