Samsung Electronics and the Pathway to Integrated Design Success

Vol. 20, No. 3, Summer 2009

Kyung-won Chung, Vice Mayor, Metropolitan Government, Seoul, Korea; Karen Freeze (1945-2009), Senior Research Fellow, DMI

Kyung-won Chung, currently a vice mayor of the metropolitan government of Seoul, South Korea during his leave of absence from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), here offers a history as well as an analysis of Samsung's corporate structure, with an eye to exploring its effect on the company's products. Chung believes it's Samsung's unique flavor of "symbiotic collaboration" between its people and the organization they work for that results in "iconic products" like the Quatro refrigerator, the Bordeaux TV, and the Twist mobile phone.
