Quango recently launched a redesigned Web presence for the Association of Professional Design Firms. Offering expanded functionality, an intuitive navigational structure and a backend content management system for updates, the new site gives APDF members a place to connect via social networks, while staying abreast of group news and upcoming events. Quango is an independent, full-service graphic design agency based in Portland, Oregon.
The Coca-Cola Company has partnered with Pininfarina Extra on the industrial design of its proprietary fountain beverage dispenser known as "Coca-Cola Freestyle."
Fredricks Design, Inc. and Callpod, Inc. have announced the launch of a strategic relationship to integrate power technology in products for the transportation, furniture, consumer goods and healthcare B2B markets. The firms will work together to develop solutions for rechargeable power technologies for integration into a wide range of products. Fredricks Design, Inc. was founded in 1984 and works with clients in the transportation, furniture, consumer goods and healthcare markets. Callpod, Inc. is an award-winning tech company that creates mobile necessities covering power, Bluetooth, and software.
LPK, working with the Art Academy of Cincinnati, has developed a revolutionary new brand identity which will be implemented throughout every touchpoint. The identity integrates with the Art Academy’s recently announced comprehensive strategic plan and optimum operating model. A color palette, identity, and student touchpoints will appear later this year as a new Art Academy website is unveiled.
LPK also partnered with Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank’s Wealth Management Group to develop branding strategies for two distinct service models which serve two different client segments. Through constituency research, LPK determined that the brand communication to the two client segments—affluent and high net worth—had to be unique in order to provide relevance, underscored by the trust and longevity of U.S. Bank.
Corey McPherson Nash has partnered with The New England Journal of Medicine to reposition the brand message and to develop a marketing campaign for print, trade show, and online advertising. The goal is to shift the image of NEJM from a print brand to a brand that connects with its audiences across multiple channels.
Corey McPherson Nash is also continuing its tradition of working with the top organizations in education and health care by partnering with Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute (Tufts CTSI) on brand strategy, visual identity and Web development.
Continuum recently paired up with the local writing and tutoring center 826 Boston to create a new brand identity, communication strategy, and print collateral. The new identity will launch Monday, October 5th at an advance screening party of Where the Wild Things Are, hosted by 826 Boston and the movie’s screenwriter Dave Eggers.
Smith Design of Glen Ridge, New Jersey and Carmel, California, has developed the branding for three supplements: Vectron, a dietary supplement that promises greater lean muscle retention and precision targeted fat loss; MyoT12, a dietary supplement that has been clinically proven to inhibit the production of myostatin, a genetic protein responsible for limiting muscle growth in humans; and Supreme Protein bars.

Several DMI members recently won awards from the Web Marketing Association. They include: Larsen Design, Crayola, Hewlett-Packard, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Online, frog design, Dell, and CVS.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will confer an Honorary Doctorate upon Stefano Marzano, CEO and Chief Creative Director of Philips Design at its 15th Congregation on October 17th.
Corey McPherson Nash won a Print Magazine regional design award for pro bono work it did on behalf of African Ecohotels Services (AES). Corey designed a logo for AES which was chosen as one of the best examples of design and branding work in the industry.
Rabbobank was nominated for a DME (Design Management Europe) Award 2009.
Essential, in partnership with Fishman, recently won a reddot product design award in the musical instruments category for the Fishman Aura Acoustic Imaging Pedals and AFX Acoustic Pedals.
James C. Smith, founding partner of Smith Design, has been elected to the New Jersey Packaging Executives Club (NJPEC) Hall of Fame and the Advertising Hall of Fame of New Jersey. Smith founded his firm more than 30 years ago in the basement of his home. Smith Design has since become a well-known and respected package design firm that can point to a number of leading national brands as clients and includes an award-winning team of package design and branding experts.
Moves
Marty Neumeier’s Neutron merged with Liquid Agency in September. Marty is now Director of Transformation of the respected branding and marketing agency.
