He has had more than thirty years experience as a senior corporate design manager, a consultant, author, and lecturer. He distinguished himself in the corporate world as Director of Corporate Design for the Gillette Company, and as Director of Corporate Identity and Design for Digital Equipment Corporation. The British Design Council engaged him to create a Knowledge Cell on design briefs for their Web site (www.designcouncil.org.uk/briefing).
He has developed case studies on corporate identity for DMI and the Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Design Management Advisory Panel for the University of Westminster (UK) Business School. He also serves on the Advisory Board and is a member of the faculty for the Suffolk University Executive MBA Program in Innovation and Design Management. Phillips serves as a member and secretary of the board of directors of the Design Management Institute (DMI).
Mr. Philips founded the DMI Professional Development Program, and develops and conducts seminars for design management professionals worldwide. His seminars are offered as in-house training for corporations, and with general open registration through the Design Management Institute.
He is a frequent guest speaker for a wide variety of organizations in the United States and Europe. Topics include: “Creating the Perfect Design Brief,” “Developing and Implementing Strategic Global Design Programs,” “Managing the Corporate Design Department,” and “Selling Strategic Design Up the Corporate Ladder.”
