Jonathan Dalton
Director, Philips Design
Jonathan Dalton is the Director for Philips Design’s Consulting Practice in North America. His responsibilities include design business strategy, creative direction and account management. Dalton helps clients achieve business objectives and redefine markets through user-centered product and strategic brand design. Dalton’s impressive roster of clients includes: GM, Motorola, Logitech, Fujitsu, 3COM, KitchenAid, DeWalt, Coca-Cola and Intel.
Dalton’s career has spanned a number of continents and design disciplines. He worked for the Electrolux Group in Europe before joining the internationally renowned ZIBA Design in the US where he led strategy, research and product development programs. A skilled innovator and experience designer, he brings a rare balance of design sensibility and strategic thinking to development programs - deciphering user’s needs and desires, connecting brand with product strategy.
Prior to joining Philips Design, Dalton was the founding director of the Strategy & Innovation Group at Altitude, Inc, a product development consultancy based in Boston, Massachusetts.
Jonathan Dalton was born in England. He trained at the University of Northumbria in Design for Industry, graduating in 1996 with 1st Class honors. When not engaged in design he enjoys cycling, supporting his favorite soccer team, fine dining and spending time with his family.

Jonathan Dalton’s work has been published in magazines such as ID, Design Week, Appliance Manufacturer, Innovation, Business Week, and GQ.
An accomplished public speaker, he has addressed various forums and seminars, particularly on the topics of people centered consumer research and innovation. Most recently Dalton spoke at the annual Voice of the Customer conference and the 2007 5th Annual Front End of Innovation Conference.
Dalton has received numerous awards for his work from the iF, IDEA and Good Design organizations and has had his work exhibited at the London Design Museum and the Greenwich Millennial Dome.
Stokes Jones
Director, Foresight, Trends & People Research, Philips Design
Stokes Jones is Philips Design’s Director of Foresight, Trends & People Research in North America. His role is to galvanize front-end innovation by capturing and interpreting social currents, wants, and needs to build compelling design strategies for Philips and its clients. He was formerly Director of Lodestar, which he founded in 2003 to help organizations innovate by responding to the cultural and technological changes shaping their customers. Its clients included the BBC, HBOS, Procter & Gamble, and Nokia. Stokes’ background is as a Director of User Experience at the e-consultancy Sapient, a strategist and trend watcher at futures consultancy The Henley Centre, and a social anthropologist at the London School of Economics.
Stokes has made documentaries for the BBC and was a finalist in their ‘New TV Expert’ contest in 2003. He has spoken at numerous trend watching conferences and is a recognized practitioner of the growing field that applies design thinking and consumer ethnography to product and marketing strategy.
Recognitions:
Stokes has won the Emrys-Peters Prize for anthropology writing, and a WPP Group Atticus Award for original published thinking in marketing services. He is a recognized practitioner of the growing field which applies consumer ethnography and design thinking to business strategy and experience design and was a selected speaker at EPIC 2005 and 2006 (the Ethnographic Praxis in Industry Conference) focusing on this area.
