Be a Speaker

The Design Management Institute sponsors three professional education conferences each year for senior management (in the various design disciplines and/or in marketing and strategic planning) who are interested in staying current on design issues/trends and best management practices. Our speakers present issues research, case studies and/or practical toolkits for managing design for business advantage.

The conferences are held in Europe (in Feb or March), Canada (in June) and Chatham, Cape Cod (in October), and each has a particular focus and theme. The European focus is International Design Management issues and case studies; the Canadian conference focuses on Brand and Corporate Identity challenges; and Cape Cod has a broader focus on design issues and trends across the disciplines.

Individuals and organizations interested in speaking are asked to submit a presentation proposal to the attention of Earl Powell, President, Design Management Insitute for review by the DMI conference selection committee, six to nine months before the conference you are targeting.

Presentation Format

  • Your proposal should be in outline form describing the scope of the presentation, the major points to be made and the benefit to the audience.

  • You will need to include a working title for the presentation, speaker name and title; as well as a bio of the speaker, and company profile.

  • If you have a video clip or audio tape from a previous presentation, or reference from other speaking engagements, that would certainly be of interest to the DMI conference selection committee.

Audience

The typical audience is articulate and visual. They are design management professionals; senior business managers or university professors (graduate level). They are all involved in promoting design for competitive business advantage.

The guiding principles of every DMI professional education conference are threefold. First, to provide leading-edge, useful information; second, to provide participants with an environment that encourages meaningful and challenging interaction; and third, to ensure the whole experience of each conference advances the participant's understanding of design management and its strategic role in business.
