From Technology-driven to Experience-driven: Building, Integrating and Maintaining a New Design Culture into a Multinational Corporation
Mauro Porcini, Head of Global Product Design, Consumer & Office Business, 3M Company
To execute design successfully in a multinational company is not just about designing the best product. The best product is both the output of a well balanced process and a starting point for success in the market. Before and after its creation, the product must be surrounded by a pervasive design culture. Design must find its way to create a smooth dialogue with every company function, spreading intelligently vertically and horizontally in the corporate organigrams, and adapting its language in order to be first understood and then leveraged by different internal target audiences. Designing successfully is about changing the way the company thinks—and everyone in the corporation must become a designer (inside)!
