| The 8th European International
Design Management Conference
Hilton Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain
March 21-23, 2004
Global competition and local markets are continually being reshaped
by the effects trends have on customer loyalties and behaviors.
To remain competitive, businesses must be able to examine, understand,
and anticipate trends. Design managers and business leaders face
several critical challenges. They must understand the components
of business and social change; they must know when a series of changes
become a sustained and important trend; and they must anticipate
future and developing trends. Consequently, several questions need
to be considered.
How do you develop appropriate tools for detecting trends? What
can be learned from trend futurists? What is the role of research
in understanding trends? What are the key dimensions of trends?
What are the implications of regional manifestations of global trends?
How can we move beyond following trends to anticipating and leading
trends? How do you manage design to achieve sustained design leadership
beyond current trends?
This conference will have presentations by leading thinkers in
the areas of trends, product development, brand management, communications,
and research.
A broad range of professionals from corporate, consultant, and
academic backgrounds have already registered for the conference,
representing companies such as Electrolux Home Products (Italy),
LEGO (Denmark), Mormedi (Spain), Coca-Cola (USA), Legrand (France),
Mormedi (Spain), Staffordshire University (UK), Philips Design (Netherlands),
Karo Group Inc. (Canada), University of Art and Design Helsinki
(Finland), and many others.
