This year's DMI annual conference will look directly into the five major macro shifts (M5) we are facing, and how Design, with a capital D, can help in new value creation (nV). Hence the theme, M5+D=nV. Challenging indeed! The content will be inspired by three leading trend setters—Chris Hacker, Chief Design Officer, Johnson & Johnson; Bruce Nussbaum, professor of innovation at Parsons; and David Butler, head of design for Coca-Cola. Together, they will lead a creative, interactive event with a new and cogent point of view on today's most important shifts and pressing issues.
We will look at these macro shifts, and explore where exactly design fits in:
The rise and fall of nations—geopolitics |
The rise and fall of generations—new leaders |
Social media—virtual networks and digital clusters |
Urbanization—concentrated cities and cultures |
Sustainability—less is more |
Expect a high concentration of content, presentations, and a very active and lively debate. Key ideas will be visualized and mind mapped. Challenging points of view are welcome!

"We live in constant beta—a state of constant, cascading change. Fortunately, Design has evolved into a sophisticated methodology that can help us shape better complex social systems as well as better material things, improved interactions and engagements, as well as better artifacts. Design is our navigator as we iterate our way through the future. The conference will help take us there."
Bruce Nussbaum
Professor of Innovation & Design, Parsons The New School for Design; Contributing Editor, Businessweek |

"The role of design is changing faster than a speeding bullet. It's an amazing time, and one full of opportunity, change, and challenge! The world needs more design leaders, which is actually much easier said than done. So join us, and lets advance the agenda together!"

"Design has become central to the way people experience the world and design thinking is the process the best companies use to assure that they make the experience right and in a sustainable way. Join us to learn how the best and the brightest are doing this great work. Come listen, experience, and engage!"

"I really feel that this conference has the potential to be one of those "defining moments." We truly live in exponential times and there's been no better time to be a designer or design manager than right now.
Design has the power to shape our brands, our businesses, our economies and our society at large--we just need to understand how to best leverage this power to create the most value. That's what's so exciting about this conference--a chance to discuss and debate this idea of creating value with some of the most progressive thinking of our time."
David Butler
Vice President of Global Design, The Coca-Cola Company
(Unfortunately, due to unforeseen travel, David will not be able to attend. David's thoughts and ideas will be there in spirit.) |
