Design Management Institute
Founded in 1975, the Design Management Institute
(DMI) has become the leading resource and international authority
on design management. DMI is a nonprofit organization that seeks
to heighten awareness of design as an essential part of business
strategy. DMI has earned a reputation worldwide as a multifaceted
resource, providing invaluable know-how, tools and training through
its conferences, seminars, membership program, and publications.
The DMI strategy is at once practical and dynamic
– in touch with technological and business realities, and
driven by a deep commitment to managing for design excellence. DMI
brings together design and business professionals from corporations,
consultancies, the public sector, and academic institutions –
across all categories of design – who are interested in advancing
their understanding providing greater value to their organizations,
and participating in a community of professionals sharing their
knowledge.
DMI develops and sponsors conferences
around the world each year, including the prestigious International
Design Management Conference, the International Brand Design Conference,
the European International Conference on Design Management, and
the biennial International Forum on Design Management Research &
Education. The DMI Professional
Development Program has rapidly grown to become the premier
provider of design management continuing education. The DMI Membership
Program offers several levels of participation, ranging from
individual memberships up through the Forum program. Members represent
leading corporations, consultancies, and academic institutions from
around the world. Publications include the prestigious DMI
Review, published quarterly; a newsletter
(DMI News & Views) distributed to 15,000 readers quarterly;
a monthly eBulletin
distributed to 15,000 individuals, and a collection of case
studies distributed through the Harvard Business School Press.

Interest Areas; the DMI Job
Bank, resource links to consultants
and associations, and an extensive collection of literature available
for purchase by the general public or free download by members.
This combination of activities and publications
works together to allow busy professionals to advance their knowledge
by staying on top of developments and trends in the field, honing
analytical and practical skills, networking and exchanging ideas
with colleagues throughout the world, and becoming leaders in their
organizations. DMI is headed by president Thomas Lockwood, and supported
by a Board of Directors from various leading Fortune 500 organizations,
with diverse backgrounds representing a variety of disciplines.
In addition, the Institute benefits from an active, international
Advisory Council comprised of leading members of the profession.
