DMI is honored and gratified to announce that it has been the recipient of a significant grant award from the US National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). The grant will help support a major DMI educational conference to be held in 2012. Key goals for the conference will be to greatly broaden participation from previous DMI educational events, increase the diversity of the audience and the presenters, and produce a significant contribution to the knowledge and practice of design management in all its forms.
Among other things, the grant will enable DMI to reach out and offer a number of scholarships to the event for qualified students and educators that would otherwise not be able to attend. An announcement about the conference dates, location, co-chairs, and a call for papers will be issued in the fall of 2011. Selected papers that are presented at the conference will be selected for publication in a special 2013 edition of DMI’s annual peer-reviewed educational publication, the Design Management Journal. The Journal is the sister publication to the DMI Review, both published by Wiley-Blackwell. A subscription to the Journal is included with DMI Review subscriptions and with all DMI memberships.
DMI has held many academic conferences over the years, including the highly successful event, “International DMI Education Conference: Design Thinking: New Challenges for Designers, Managers and Organizations,” which was held in 2008 at the ESSEC Business School near Paris. The event featured 84 different paper presentations, eight of which were selected for publication in the 2009 issue of the Design Management Journal. This year, DMI is collaborating with Tshinghua University to organize the 2011 Tsinghua DMI International Design management Symposium, to be held 3-5 December, 2011, in Hong Kong.
