Thomas Lockwood
 

Thomas Lockwood is an international authority on brand and design management. He has lectured widely about design management at Universities and corporations in the US, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, England, Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, Belgium, Ireland and The Netherlands.


Dr. Lockwood holds a PhD in Design Management from the Harrow Business School, University of Westminster, London, an MBA in Design Management, and a BA in Marketing and in Visual Design. His doctoral research explored the relations between design, business and user, determining best-of-class structures and processes of integrated design management, in order to achieve design relevancy for the user, design coherency for the brand, and design innovation for the business.


As President of the Design Management Institute Dr. Lockwood is responsible for all aspects of managing the Institute in order to support the international design management community by helping organizations worldwide better understand the effective management of design for economic growth. This includes setting the research agenda, operations management, and managing member programs throughout the world. 


Prior to joining DMI, Lockwood has worked in both the design consulting side and the corporate design management side, including running a design consultancy for ten years. As an accomplished designer and brand manager, he has most recently held strategic global brand and design management positions at StorageTek and at Sun Microsystems prior to joining DMI.  


His career is dedicated to the advancement of design in business for the improvement of innovation, business metrics and customer satisfaction.
